JOB RELATIONSHIPS Responsible to: Supervisor DEFINITION OF POSITION Responsible for supervising a variety of duties pertaining to the patient service and trayline delivery systems. Major responsibilities include maintenance of proper staffing of diet office/trayline/host/esses, and obtaining patient meal selections. The menu specialist ensures that patient satisfaction scores are maintained or exceeded for the current year; that proper service recovery procedures are in place as necessary; that food and physical safety and sanitation of the diet office and trayline areas are maintained; and that positive and professional working relationships are fostered both intra- and interdepartmentally. QUALIFICATIONS Professional High school graduate or equivalent, with ability to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language and ability to verbalize menu options, clearly, quickly and accurately. A minimum of 3-6 months in food service and/or customer service is required. Ability to perform simple mathematics and follow written and verbal instructions is required. With minimal training, must have a thorough understanding of diet principles and must understand basic food preparation, safety and sanitation. Must be able to operate efficiently hospital pagers, computers, fax and telephones. Professional appearance must be maintained at all times. Personal Must maintain good physical and emotional well-being. Accurately and efficiently obtain patient meal selections, using appropriate patient identifiers. Must work effectively with others, possessing tact, discretion and diplomacy. Must show evidence of knowledge and ability to use proper channels of communication. Communicates effectively with patients, visitors and coworkers. Must be able to organize people and materials and be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills. Must possess a sense of responsibility, initiative and honesty. Physical Must be able to push and steer a food cart and work in a standing or walking position for 50-80% of the work time. Must be able to lift 20 pounds with a repetitive twisting motion for stocking and tray delivery. Capable of frequent stooping, bending and lifting throughout shift. The role requires significant concentration and attention to detail up to 50% of the time with occasional exposure to adverse working conditions from equipment such as ovens, freezers and refrigerators, up to 20% of work time.
