Overview: POSITION TITLE (Oracle title) MASTER CRAFTSMAN WORKING
TITLE Master Craftsman–Wastewater SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT Maintenance and
Operations (M&O) LOCATION Rock Quarry Road (Building B),
Raleigh, NC PAY GRADE Noncertified Grade 27 FLSA STATUS Nonexempt
ELIGIBILITY FOR EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT No WORK WEEK SCHEDULE
Monday-Friday (On call on a rotational basis) Position is not
available for a Hybrid Telework workweek Performs master craftsman
and lead work associated with installation, inspection, and
maintenance of wastewater systems, equipment, materials and
fixtures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
(KSAs) - Considerable knowledge of wastewater systems, lift
stations, and associated equipment; - Working knowledge of
Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; Google Apps; - Working
knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
standards; - Critical thinking and problem solving skills; -
Ability to work independently and as part of a team and complete
tasks in the absence of clear direction; - Ability to perform
arithmetic calculations; - Ability to troubleshoot and perform
maintenance and repairs on plumbing systems; - Ability to
communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the
appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and
feedback; - Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and
external agencies. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE - High
school diploma or equivalent; - Five years of experience directly
related to wastewater and/or plumbing systems installation and
repair. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS - Within twelve
months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA
standards; - Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle
operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Associates degree or technical school
training in plumbing systems; - Hold a valid Wastewater Collection
System Operator License or obtain one within 12 months of hiring.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs experienced or
master craftsman level work associated with wastewater lift station
systems, materials, equipment, and fixtures. 2. Responds to
assigned work orders relating to electrical systems; troubleshoots
appropriate corrective measures and performs work to provide a
solution. 3. Replaces faulty or defective plumbing equipment and
systems. 4. Prepares and maintains records, work logs, and reports,
as needed. 5. Adheres to laws, regulations and requirements set
forth in the Wake County Public School System’s (WCPSS) safety
procedures/policies. 6. Maintains compliance and adherence to all
safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintaining a
safe work environment. 7. Performs other related duties, as
assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This job operates
in indoor and outdoor environments. This role routinely uses
standard office equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, etc.
The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact
with school system staff, contractors, vendors and staff members of
external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work,
requiring the exertion of up to 75 pounds of force. The work
requires the ability to operate automotive equipment. Frequent
exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, moving
parts, and inclement weather conditions. EFFECTIVE DATE: 9/2025
